This is what I did two Saturdays ago.  I am trying to make it a habit to go to Flavor’s Cafe and Wine Bar to paint with Lynn once  a week.  The week leading up to this particular Saturday Joe came to visit and my classes at the community college started. (I am taking a math class and a small business class, if you care to know.)  I was very busy that week and did not really get into my studio. Joe also brought ALL my books down instead of just a few that I asked him for so my studio was and is over-flowing.

This is the boat after last Saturday. Not a lot of difference yet. I also made some more changes to the painting of the man in front of the standing Buddha.  I did not get a lot accomplished the week before that Saturday because the new bar down the street has started having live music and djs. No matter how many times the cops are called they just keep the music blasting until 2am. I was a complete zombie all week. Just when I started to get into a decent sleep pattern again, it was the weekend. This caused me to be a zombie for most of last week as well. Finally I decided to get some OTC sleep aid.  I’ve started to sleep better, but then it was the weekend again. I don’t want to take the sleep aid every night because it can be addictive. So I waited until last night to take it and I feel pretty good today. They really unfortunate thing is that I like to stay up late, my body’s natural rhythm is  to stay up all night, but I have school now and the household I’m in does not make for ideal day-time sleeping habits.  So I’m having a tough time of it right now, but hopefully that will stop soon.

I think I’m going to start looking for a gallery in St. Louis.
 

If you will remember this post, I showed you a WIP that had a terrible palette.

I worked on it a bit and I’ve decided to scrap it.

I think it looks better now, but it’s not the direction I want it to go. Perhaps when I start over I will continue to work on this one to see which I prefer.

Cadmium Red, Windsor Yellow, and Cobalt blue may look like a bright palette, however, it turns into a dead palette.

I believe I will be changing this color palette to French Ultra Marine, New Gambouge, Permanent Alizarin Crimson.

Exhibit B

These are both 30 minute sketches of my niece. I’m hoping she decides to model for me on a weekly basis, but I think she discovered it’s harder than it looks.  She had a hard time holding these poses for the full 30 minutes.  I am pretty happy with them considering how long it’s been since I’ve had a model sit for me.

Does anyone know how to get the white of the paper to look white without washing the rest of the painting out?
