I finally started 2 paintings I promised my Grandma. The first is Digie (short for Digital) who was my Grandma’s literal constant companion for almost a solid 12 years. She died January 2010 and of course my Grandma has had a hard time dealing with the loss of such a beloved friend. Fanny was another of my Grandma’s dogs who died, probably 8 or 9 years ago. She was a sweet thing and she died the same week as my Great-Grandma (my Grandma’s mom). We were in Tennessee at the time, to be with my GG and when we got home Fanny was not there to greet us. (On a very sad side note, the puppy my step-grandpa got my grandma to make the loss of Digie a little easier died last month. It was a very sad time and there may be a very cute portrait of him in the future. He was the happiest living creature I had ever seen.)
(I’m doing the paintings on the same piece of paper, clearly, and I ran out of masking tape.)
These paintings are very tiny. 5×7. I don’t plan on doing much more with either background. I just plan on whipping out these two so I can stretch a piece of paper for my next big project, which consists of lots of little projects. 8X10s at the biggest. I made a commitment to have the children’s book illustrated in the next 3 months. If I work on it every day, that should be plenty of time.
I am still working on my sketches. I did 2 other sketch sessions last week. Neither were very interesting so I wasn’t exactly motivated to get out the sketchbook and take a few photos.
